Sara Bareilles On The “Brave”/”Roar” Controversy: “Relax”

One person who’s not worried about how similar Katy Perry‘s “Roar” is to Sara Bareilles“Brave”? Sara Bareilles herself. The singer spoke to ABC News Radio about the “controversy” and basically told everyone to chill out. “Katy’s a friend of mine and we’ve known each other a really long time, so she even texted me about it and we went back and forth,” Bareilles said. In fact, she’s more worried that the debate has distracted from the messages of the two songs.

“The shame that I feel that’s happened is that it’s become a drama. It’s putting this negative spin on two artists that are choosing to share positive messages,” she said. “If I’m not mad I don’t know why anybody else is upset. I’m like, ‘Relax, let’s just celebrate that we can be out there and encouraging people to, like, feel strong and empowered.'”

The cynic in me would say that Sara’s calm reaction might have something to do with the fact that the “Brave”/”Roar” connection helped give her an 80% sales boost — but clearly the two singers are friends, and she doesn’t seem like the type to hold grudges and stir up drama.
