Janelle Monae & Solange Buzz On “Electric Lady”: Listen

Janelle Monae‘s forthcoming two-disc album The Electric Lady (out September 10) is frontloaded with guest spots, including Prince, Miguel, Erykah Badu and Solange all appearing on Disc 1. Today we get to hear the Solange duet “Electric Lady,” the album’s basically-title track. It’s not as much of a jolt as the name would suggest, going more for a soulful groove instead.

The electric guitar, fittingly, plays a prominent role, along with some horns and handclaps, with Sol mainly in a supporting role as Janelle sings about things like her spaceship leaving at 10 (natch). As she does at the end of lead single “Q.U.E.E.N.”, Monae also drops a few girl-power bars in this one.
