Bastille‘s brilliant version of Miley Cyrus“We Can’t Stop” is the best BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge cover since Robin Thicke turned Icona Pop‘s “I Love It” into a smooth, retro-soul anthem. Like that incredible interpretation, the British band takes fairly generic material (at least, lyrically) and imbues it with emotional depth and a previously absent musicality.

Dan Smith ups the ante vocally, turning the song into an eerily pretty mid-tempo ballad — complete with strings. They even bring Billy Ray Cyrus‘ “Achy Breaky Heart” into the mix, making this version of “We Can’t Stop” a strangely poignant must-hear. Watch in awe up top.
