Lady Gaga Apologizes To Christina Aguilera For Their Real/Imagined Feud On ‘Watch What Happens’

Lady Gaga appeared on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live decked out in her giant wig and mermaid bikini to goof around with host Andy Cohen and answer some fan questions. After revealing some humanizing details (like which of her outfits was the most painful, and what she wears to bed), Mother Monster offered up a thoughtful response when asked her opinion of pseudo-rival Christina Aguilera.

“I’m a very big fan of Christina Aguilera. From the very beginning of when my career started there was all this controversy about the two of us. And I always felt that was very unfair to her,” Gaga started off. “Christina is an incredible vocalist and an incredible artist, and from me to her I’m so sorry for anything that anyone ever said to her because of my existence, and I hope that she never felt any way about it. Because when I was 15, I was singing ‘I Turn To You’ at the top of my lungs trying to hit all her notes. So she was an inspiration to me to have a wider vocal range and I just think it’s all total nonsense, the way that they do that.”

“They” would refer to just about everyone other than Xtina and Gaga, because “they” drove the feud narrative. The apparent rivalry emerged early in Gaga’s career, and fans of each would claim that the other was biting their queen’s style. While Aguilera did help fan the flames by spouting the now-classic “I’m not quite sure who this person is” diss when asked about Gaga way back in 2009, it was a fight that’s mainly been left to stanbases, blogs and (sometimes) collaborators.

Perhaps now we can all move on, join hands and listen to Bionic.
