New ‘X Factor’ Panel Fails To Attract Viewers, Talent Show Debuts With Series Low Ratings

Simon Cowell can’t seem to find the winning formula for X Factor. The talent show struggled against The Voice last year (despite the addition of Britney Spears to the judging panel) and again struggled to find viewers last night. It drew an audience of 6.2 million — a 36% fall from the previous season.

X Factor ratings tend to increase when the show transitions to live eliminations but this isn’t an auspicious beginning for new judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio. It will be interesting to see how The Voice fares in comparison when it returns later this month. Perhaps Americans are finally getting tired of talent shows in general.
