Phantogram Return With “Black Out Days”: Listen

Phantogram has always been one of our favorite synth-pop acts of the 2010s, but they’re tipped to hit a whole new level of popularity after doing a residency with Big Boi for a few tracks on his most recent album. The New York duo hasn’t released new material since 2011 (it feels longer than that, doesn’t it?), but now they’re ready to capitalize on the momentum with new track “Black Out Days.”

The familiar elements are all there — programmed beats, vocal loops, rich synth lines — but it’s Sarah Barthel’s voice that takes center stage. It’s not a grand leap forward or anything, but it’s an effective reminder of why we fell for these two in the first place. No word yet on whether their latest bit of ice pop is part of an upcoming full-length, but for now, stream it below.
