HAIM Cover Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” (Beautifully, Of Course)

Alt-pop girl group du jour HAIM have one of the best albums of the year with their debut Days Are Gone (out next week but streaming now), but their current success isn’t only about A+ songs like “The Wire” and “Falling”! No, the sisters Haim turned their rock sensibilities to a current pop smash — Miley Cyrus‘ excellent “Wrecking Ball” — in a session for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, and it’s an unsurprisingly great effort, putting Este Haim‘s tangy, twangy vox to fine use on the monolithic Dr. Luke ballad.

Aside from a few mixing issues (the track is loud, drowning out the vocals), it’s a fine effort that highlights both HAIM’s exceptional musicianship and the fine songcraft in the DNA of Miley’s hit. The fact that none of them are swinging around nude in a demolition site or licking sledgehammers during the set is probably a blessing.

Watch up top.
