Miley Cyrus Tones Down “We Can’t Stop” With An Acoustic Rendition On ‘Saturday Night Live’: Watch

Hats (or should I say hoodies) off to Miley Cyrus for remembering she is a singer first, zeitgeist-capturing beacon of shock second, on tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Live. She started the show with a soaring rock rendition of “Wrecking Ball” before dialing it way down with a smooth acoustic version of Bangerz lead single “We Can’t Stop”.

Her voice wavered amiably over a trio of guitars, throwing in the occasional improvised lyric. We already knew the track itself was capable of transformation due to Bastille‘s epic cover but it’s nice to see Miley is willing to take the song in a new direction. The reformed twerker’s winning performances are a reminder that there’s a potentially great pop star hiding beneath that foam finger. Watch up top.
