And now for a refreshing open letter. In addition to dropping new song “Consumerism” upon her release from prison, Lauryn Hill posted a “letter of recognition” to her fans and supporters, thanking them for their encouragement as she spent three months behind bars for tax evasion.

“I want to thank everyone who wrote letters and sent packages and books. Because of you there was not one day that I didn’t receive mail while I was away,” she wrote. “Know that many of your letters not only touched me, but continued to confirm for me what I already knew but needed to hear again: that sincere expression has a serious purpose.”

Hill also thanked dozens of specific individuals by name. Read the full text below.

Though she’s out of prison, Hill still must serve three months of home detention and nine months of supervised release. However, TMZ reported a judge has postponed her house arrest so that she can tour at the end of the year, pending approval from her probation officer.
