After generating a mountain of hype — and their own tropical-pop sub-genre — with tracks like “September” and “Elevate”, St. Lucia finally released their debut LP When The Night earlier this month and somehow managed to exceed expectations with a flawless set of shimmery synth-pop songs.

The band’s founder and frontman Jean-Philip Grobler dropped by the Idolator studio to talk about the album and his musical beginnings in South Africa as well as discussing production duties on HAERTS‘ critically acclaimed EP and touring with Ellie Goulding. Watch up top.

Listen to the John Wizards remix of “Elevate” that Jean-Philip mentions in the interview below and let us know what you think of the interview in the comments.
