Brad Walsh & Hustle Roses’ “Bongo Bong / Je Ne T’aime Plus”: Video Premiere

Los Angeles-based songbird Hustle Roses is a favorite around these parts — as is New York singer and producer Brad Walsh, who’s helmed major remixes for artists like Britney Spears and Adam Lambert — so when the two come together for a collaboration, it’s all but required listening. Walsh provides the music for his fiance Christian Siriano‘s runway shows each season, but this year was a little different, as Walsh teamed up with Roses for an interpretation of Manu Chao‘s international hit “Bongo Bong” to soundtrack the designer’s Mexico-inspired collection.

For the music video for the song, which sees Walsh and Roses trading vocal duties, they spent ten hours filming each other with no real strategy, but the end result — a brilliantly psychedelic clip that plays with color while both artists wear white-and-black looks from Siriano’s collection — has a perspective and whimsy that points to its playful origins, as well as the friendship between the two players. “Making this video was a new collaborative process for me and Brad,” Roses said. “The black and white looks screamed at me.”

“I’ve loved Manu Chao’s song for a decade,” Walsh said. “When he said the collection was inspired by our recent trip to Mexico and that he wanted the music to be fun and lighthearted, I immediately thought of this song. Usually I create new songs for the shows, but this one just jumped into my head and stayed there.” No complaints here.
