Are you still rock and roll? Avril Lavigne sure is: The Canadian songstress has just dropped her self-titled album (her fifth!) to impressive commercial results and, ahem, critical acclaim. (I said it was one of my favorite pop records of the year, and I stand by that statement.)
So when Idolator sat down with the punk-pop chanteuse, there was much to discuss: The sound of Avril Lavigne, her collaborations with husband Chad Kroeger and not-husband Marilyn Manson, the theme of nostalgia that’s woven through the new LP and — most crucially — her eye makeup, which has remained (iconically) consistent over the last decade.
The times may have changed, but Avril’s still carrying the torch for her pop-rock sound.
