Watch M.I.A. Perform “Come Walk With Me” On ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’

M.I.A. closed out Matangi release week with a performance of the new album’s manic “Come Walk With Me” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. With The Roots as her backing band (apparently one of only two times she’s ever performed with a band) and a stable of backup singers, the divisive pop star looked as cool as ever rocking a sideways, bejeweled cap and her general air of “I could do this in my sleep.”

The song’s beat is such a whacked-out sugar rush, but the contrast with the plaintive vocals became even more apparent in the live setting. M.I.A. couldn’t really tap into the frenetic energy since she had to stick by the mic to sing for most of it, while The Roots had all the fun flailing around on percussion and synths.

Check it out up top, and head below to watch her chat with the host about her embarrassing first encounter with The Roots, which involves a Japanese nightclub and a DMXBelly reference.
