Cher Hates ‘Burlesque’, Calls The Camp Classic A “Horrible” Movie

In news that will shock and appall connoisseurs of fine cinema the world over, Cher has labelled Burlesque a “horrible” movie. Consider my heart broken. The Golden Globe-nominated story of a pretty young thing (played by acting great Christina Aguilera) making it in the cutthroat world of erotic dancing was a moderate box office hit in 2010 and has since become something of a cult classic.

But the 67-year-old sex symbol didn’t hold back when asked about the film in a recent interview. “It could have been a much better film,” she admitted. “It was always sad that it was not a good film.” The reason for its apparent shortcomings? Cher pins the blame on Steve Antin, calling him a “really terrible director”. She also believes her character was one-dimensional. “In Burlesque, which was horrible, I had no love interest,” she complains.

“Had it been shorter, it would have squeaked by and been a really good popcorn movie,” is the legendary diva’s final verdict. Cher’s entitled to her opinion but I’ve watched Burlesque a dozen times and keep going back for more. She is right about one thing. Where was her love interest? Tess was way too sexy to be single!

Do you agree with Cher’s opinion? Have your say in the comments below.

Wow, i’ve watched the film for the first time yesterday and it amazed me how a legend like her didn’t try to steal the spotlight on such a young diva like Aguilera, but i guess it was too much dimes for just one saint ha? Honestly, it wouldn’t have changed much the love story of her character, i wouldn’t say it was one of the heck movie, it was just fine the way it was. I guess she was well ‘matched’ with Stanley Tucci’s character just like him and Meryl Streep on “The Devil wears prada”. Too bad she thinks that way of the movie cause she was the coolest part of it.

I have the soundtrack and each time I listen to it (which is every week) I picture Cher singing her heart out. She claimed her torch solo in the movie was the hardest because it required a large range in the song. The movie was great as it had a good story and it kept going; it didn’t stall and leave loose ends. The fact that she didn’t have a love interest is her disappointment, but it would not have added anything as the story was about saving Burlesque, not her.
