Miley Cyrus Performs “Wrecking Ball” & Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” On Radio 1 Live Lounge: Listen

With all the onstage antics and distractions and foolery of Miley Cyrus‘ Bangerz era, it’s easy to forget that she’s actually, y’know, super talented — but the twerk-happy songbird showed off some serious vocal chops when she stopped by BBC’s Radio 1 Live Lounge earlier today to perform her own hit “Wrecking Ball” as well as Lana Del Rey‘s hit “Summertime Sadness.”

Her raspy, husky vocals sound great on her own song, of course, with just a guitar and piano for backing, but it’s surprising how much new life she breathes into Del Rey’s now-ubiquitous track: Stripping it down to the bare essentials, her voice is soaked in, well, sadness; it’s a striking rendition.

Miley, stop distracting us from your prodigious vocal abilities and precocious artistry with dumb stunts and sing great songs like this, please.
