Eminem Goes Berzerk Atop Album Chart, Has Second-Biggest Opening Of 2013

Justin Timberlake stills rules 2013 as far as first-week album sales — his The 20/20 Experience opened with 968,000 copies sold in March — but Eminem has made a serious run for the throne with his latest. The Marshall Mathers LP 2 moved 792,000 copies last week, and thus lands atop the Billboard 200. This bumps Drake‘s Nothing Was The Same (658,000) into third place as far as the year’s biggest openings, and trailing that one is Jay Z‘s Magna Carta Holy Grail, which started with just over 528,000 copies in July.

Back to this week, Celine Dion‘s Loved Me Back To Life, the Canadian singer’s first English language pop album since 2007’s Taking Chances, debuts at #2 (77,000). Fellow Canuck Avril Lavigne goes in at #5 (44,000) with her self-titled album, while a cappella sensations Pentatonix (aka the vocal group behind that “Daft Punk” mashup that’s been appearing on your Facebook wall for the past week) make a career-high appearance at #10 with PTX: Vol. II.
