Britney Spears’ “Perfume” (Dreaming Mix) Is Way Better Than The Single Version: Listen

Britney Spears‘ latest offering from Britney Jean, “Perfume,” may have divided the critics — many of whom (this one included) took umbrage with the song’s too-glossy, mushy production courtesy of Dr. Luke and will.i.am — but fans who prefer a more stripped-down Spears will likely find much to love in the Dreaming Mix of “Perfume,” taken from the deluxe edition of Britney Jean.

Sparer production throughout with additional strings and a guitar-driven chorus allow Spears’ vocals to shine; it’s more vulnerable and more emotional, not as buried under instrumentation. It’s good! Much tougher to criticize than the overcooked single version.

If the rumors are true and this is more or less the mix that was prepped before will.i.am decided to ready it for radio, it’s further proof that he has no business mucking around with the careers of legends.

But what do the fans think?
