Britney Spears’ “Perfume” Lyric Video Smells Like A Cheap Off-Brand Fragrance: Watch

Oh dear. When the historians trace back the origins of the Great Stan Uprising Of 2013, it seems likely that they will begin with Britney Spears‘ lamentable “Perfume” lyric video, which — God bless Britney, and God bless “Perfume” — is as dull and lazy as they come. It looks, frankly, egregiously budget.

Patched together with cheap-looking video of a generic hotel room and stock footage of glittering cityscapes with cheesy purple lyrics, there’s nothing inventive or exciting about it (and Britney isn’t in it at all, if that wasn’t obvious). Even the hilariously obvious product placement opportunities — she has a line of perfumes, for God’s sake! — were missed.

Britney: We need more from you than this. You gotta step it up, babe.

In the interim, if you need me, I’ll be listening to the Dreaming Mix of “Perfume” and pretending like none of this ever happened.

Watch up top, if you dare.
