Britney Spears’ “Brightest Morning Star”: Listen To The ‘Britney Jean’ Electro Ballad

“Brightest Morning Star” is the latest track from Britney Spears‘ new LP to surface online. At this rate, the entire Britney Jean album will be on fans’ iPods before its December release date. Security concerns aside, is the deluxe edition electro-ballad any good? The answer, unfortunately, is not really.

Like the other prematurely-arrived tracks from Britney Jean, the track is bogged down by clunky production and misguided earnestness. It starts off promisingly with sparse beats and a seemingly personal perspective (“you are the light of my beautiful life”) before the sentiment is drowned out by shuddering synths and Hallmark lyrics.

If only Britney (and her army of songwriters) could tap into the same emotional space that created classics like “Everytime” and “Unusual You”. They have an authenticity and emotional punch missing from misfires like “Perfume” and “Brightest Morning Star”. Take a listen after the jump.
