Lily Allen Says Twitter Beef With Azealia Banks Motivated Her To Write New Music

Back in July, Azealia Banks and Lily Allen got into a petty, silly Twitter spat. A quick recap: Banks insulted Allen’s husband, Allen called Banks a one-hit wonder, Banks said Allen has “ugly children and a coke habit.” It was a childish and completely stupid exchange, as most Twitter beefs are. But one good thing came out of it: Allen says the feud ultimately motivated her to write new music.

“There was one person that was particularly nasty to me on Twitter for no apparent reason. And I was struggling with finding my voice — not my singing voice, because I’ve never found that — but my writing voice,” Allen explained to Nick Grimshaw of BBC Radio 1 in a recent interview. “And this one person was being particularly horrible to me and I happened to be in a studio session at the time, and it was just brilliant because it ignited this juvenile flame in my belly. So thank you, Ms. Banks.”

The question now is whether the “Hard Out Here” singer ended up penning an overt diss track (wouldn’t be her first time). Either way, though, Azealia can at least take solace in the fact that she is finally linked to new music.
