Britney Spears Unveils ‘Britney Jean’ Album Sampler: Hear Snippets Of Each Song

After a string of leaks, there’s finally a full, proper taste of Britney Spears‘ upcoming eighth album Britney Jean making the rounds online, in the form of 30-second snippets of every song on the deluxe edition.

So how is it? Well — a mixed bag, which is exactly what the singles and leaks suggested it would be. I’ll withhold judgment entirely until the full album drops, but so far, “Alien” and “Passenger” are sounding like clear standouts, and I maintain that the Dreaming Mix of “Perfume” is absolutely stunning, but — and I say this as an avowed Britney fan — the other songs sound a little basic.

Maybe it just sounds that way now! Maybe the actual album will impress us and turn out to be stronger and more dynamic and compelling than these snippets suggest. But it’s not looking good, at this point. I’ll keep crossing my fingers.

Fans, let us join hands and take solace in our certainty that this is not Britney’s fault. Femme Fatale was nearly flawless. Circus was killer. Blackout is iconic. She’s gone off course. But it’s not her fault. It’s Will.i.am‘s fault. He was supposed to be steering this ship and instead, he’s sinking it. Blame him.
