Christina Aguilera & A Great Big World And Ke$ha & Pitbull Climb iTunes Post-AMAs

A plethora of big names performed at the American Music Awards last night (November 24) but who really connected with viewers? A coarse way of judging this is the inevitable post-show sales boost and the winners — according to today’s iTunes download chart — are Christina Aguilera and A Great Big World‘s “Say Something” and Pitbull and Ke$ha‘s “Timber”.

Xtina and friends’ gut-wrenching performance clearly struck a chord. “Say Something” jumped from number 13 to number one overnight. Almost as impressive was Mr. Worldwide and K$’s collaboration, which surged from number six to number two on the download chart (it has since been bumped back a spot by Justin Bieber‘s new buzz single “Roller Coaster”).

Also of note was One Direction‘s “Story Of My Life”, which flew into the top five after last night’s performance and Imagine Dragons‘ “Demons”, which climbed into the top 10. Curiously, Katy Perry‘s “Unconditionally” and Lady Gaga and R. Kelly‘s “Do What U Want” failed to show much improvement. Could this be diva fatigue, perhaps?

We’ll have to wait for Billboard to update their charts to get the full impact of the American Music Awards but it’s interesting that two of the least hyped performances were the ones that made music fans click the download button.
