Rick Ross Jumps On Ashanti’s “I Got It”: Listen

Rick Ross promises to provide for Ashanti in a new version of “I Got It,” a song first released this summer. “She want a cappuccino, so I bought her Starbucks,” he declares, and in the middle of his business-as-usual inventory count, as required by the rapper’s drug-lord charade: Bricks on consignment? Check. Bulletproof coups? Choppers? Of course.

It’s as if the Mastermind rapper was seduced by Ashanti’s breathy confidence: “I’m not bragging, babe / I just like to celebrate my accolades.”

The R&B diva sounds like she’s smartly updated her past, mafia princess persona in both versions of “I Got It.” (The first featured Future.) She also seems far more relaxed compared to her initial, high-octane attempts to build anticipation for her new album Braveheart: “The Woman You Love” featuring Busta Rhymes and “That’s What We Do” featuring R. Kelly.

While her initial singles are standout songs, this version of “I Got It” could fit into rap radio, now. Let’s hope that it does, solely so that Braveheart — an album once slated for a January 2013 release — may finally come out. Hear Ashanti’s new take below.
