Britney Spears’ “Now That I Found You”: Listen To The Quirky ‘Britney Jean’ Bonus Track

The response to Britney Spears‘ eighth studio LP — listen to it here — has been mixed. Some fans are delighted to hear new music from their icon, while others are baying for Will.i.am‘s blood. The rest of us are just confused about Brit’s “most personal album” being full of club bangers. The Britney Jean bonus tracks arrived online today and, happily, they are more in line with the set’s purported theme.

We’ve already heard “Brightest Morning Star” and “Perfume (The Dreaming Mix)”, which are triumphant in comparison to most of the standard tracks, but “Hold On Tight” and “Now That I Found You” are also well worth a listen. The latter is my pick. An oddball mix of sounds and influences, the pretty electro-ballad/bonkers dance anthem at least offers some insight into the diva’s state of mind.

“Lived a wasteful life in a hateful city, there was no love just pain and pity ’til I found you,” Britney croons sweetly before cheesy euro-synths come crashing down and the hitmaker moves into self-help mode, declaring: “I can live my life, I believe in faith, I have found myself, I have lost my hate, I have felt the love, I can see the truth now that I found you.”

This is a really weird song. But what do you expect when Will.i.am, David Guetta and Danny O’Donoghue (the lead singer from The Script) share songwriting credits? “Now That I Found You” is probably an acquired taste but it successfully pushes Britney out of her comfort zone and, let’s be honest, the unexpected ’90s techno breakdown is kind of amazing. Listen to the quirky jam after the jump.
