Watch Jay Z Perform “Holy Grail” At First US Date Of Magna Carta World Tour

Jay Z already conquered the US with the help of his pal Justin Timberlake on their joint tour this summer, but the warrior-king is back to pillage on his own with the North American leg of his Magna Carta world tour. The first US date took place in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday (November 30), and Hov sounded extremely fired up to be back, ripping through MCHG opener “Holy Grail,” sans Timberlake.

Even better than Jay’s charisma in this clip, though, is the grungy Nirvana interpolation — during that pseudo-controversial “Smells Like Teen Spirit” homage, Hov’s live band kicked in some distorted guitars for a more accurate Cobain effect. And that was followed later by a “Thriller” interpolation. Check it out up top.
