Daft Punk’s “Instant Crush” Video: Watch An Inanimate Julian Casablancas Fall In Love

Daft Punk have premiered their “Instant Crush” video today (December 6), hours after previewing a clip on French TV. And what was hinted at in that teaser is a reality in the full version: there’s no participation from the French Robots themselves (however, their helmets do make a very brief appearance).

Instead, the visual stars the song’s featured singer, Julian Casablancas., performing on an empty soundstage in a rad leather jacket. But the main story involves a museum statue of Casablancas falling for a female statue in a nearby exhibit. It sounds like a dumb premise, but I have to say, they managed to wrench a good amount of emotion out of two inanimate objects. And the quirky narrative is a solid fit for the melancholy cheese of the song.
