Watch Lady Gaga’s Beautiful Unplugged Rendition Of “Applause”

Lady Gaga has recently taken a break from US television appearances to conquer the airwaves across the globe, and lately she’s been posting up on Japanese television. The star recently appeared on the show Sukkiri and performed a beautiful, stripped down version of ARTPOP lead single “Applause.” Well, it was stripped down in the sense that this rendition consisted entirely of Gaga’s voice and piano. But in terms of emotion and musicianship, I’d say it’s actually more intense than the original.

Seated at the piano, surrounded by Mother Monster mannequins, Gaga belted out towering vocals and pounded away on the ivories, showcasing the type of classically-trained skills you rarely see from a pop star these days. Unlike her similarly acoustic lounge version of “Poker Face,” this take is more befitting of a concert hall than a cabaret. Check it out up top.
