Celine Dion Covers “Open Arms”: Listen To The ‘Loved Me Back To Life’ Japanese Bonus Track

Celine Dion‘s Loved Me Back To Life album boasts a number of fine covers but, somewhat disappointingly, her lovely version of Journey‘s “Open Arms” was relegated to Japanese bonus track status. Of course, Mariah Carey made the song her own in the mid ’90s — so perhaps she didn’t want to spark a diva throw down.

The classy Canadian has taken a less-is-more approach to vocal acrobatics this era, only pulling the trigger when the material absolutely calls for it. As such, Celine’s version is surprisingly subtle and restrained. Her peerless vocals calmly sail over the delicate orchestral arrangement before finally unleashing at the very end. Listen after the jump.

Who sang it better — Mariah or Celine? You be the judge in the comments below.
