Angel Haze surprised rap fans Wednesday (December 18) when she posted her full debut albumDirty Gold, online without the consent of her label. She apparently had some long-simmering frustrations with Island/Republic, and used Twitter to air her grievances before leaking the album. The label soon removed the songs, but her little rebellion achieved its goal: Dirty Gold, originally slated for a March 3 release, is now dropping on December 30.

The rapper made the announcement on Twitter last night, several hours after the incident, and offered up an explanation for her leak. “My labels didn’t think that I would do it, but I did. It’s hard to put at risk everything I’ve spent this year working on but I had to,” she wrote, adding, “My labels have agreed to release Dirty Gold December 30th. UK & US.”

So, she won, her debut album is coming out this year after all. But, now it’s buried on New Year’s Eve Eve, which has to be one of the least productive, least commercially viable days of the year. Congrats?
