Candice Glover Unveils Her Tear-Jerking “Cried” Video: Watch

Candice Glover‘s “Cried” is her second attempt at a hit single. Thanks to her new video, though, the beloved Season 12 American Idol winner may re-capture the public’s attention. As Glover sings, a couple’s love turns abusive following the birth of their first child, a girl who’s later forced to witness the family’s undoing. These scenes drive home one of Glover’s lines in particular: “I tried to be the girl that never complains, but holding it in is driving insane.”

“Cried,” penned by major influence Jazmine Sullivan, follows “I Am Beautiful,” Glover’s fine Idol coronation single that stalled on the charts. As we previously noted, “Cried” places her firmly in the retro-soul category, making her an easy fit for R&B radio but not so much for urban radio as a whole. But the video may also remind of the nature of Glover’s Idol victory, of how she auditioned for three years in a row and then seemed the most determined to win.
