Rick Ross Sues LMFAO For Copyright Infringement

Rick Ross is suing LMFAO for copyright infringement, claiming the line “Everyday I’m shufflin'” from the duo’s 2011 smash “Party Rock Anthem” bites the “Everyday I’m hustlin'” hook off Rozay’s 2006 debut single “Hustlin’.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, a lawsuit filed in Florida argues the usage “is readily apparent… and constitutes, inter alia, the creation of an unauthorized derivative work.” Rozay alleges that the phrase is “performed in a manner to sound like” Ross’ phrase, and “is an obvious attempt to capitalize on the fame and success of “Hustlin’.'”

Ross is seeking an injunction and maximum statutory damages. As for why this lawsuit is only coming to light now? Well, the rapper’s legal team for the past few months was embroiled in a battle with Freeway Ricky Ross, a former drug kingpin. Freeway sued the Maybach Music boss for using his name and elements of his real-life story as part of the Rozay persona. However, a judge last week tossed out the suit on first amendment grounds.
