Broods Get Even Gloomier (And Prettier) On “Never Gonna Change”: Listen

Well, 2013 may have belonged to Lorde, but 2014 is shaping up to be the year that another Kiwi act featuring production by Joel Little (the musician who helped shape the sound of Lorde’s debut Pure Heroine) takes the spotlight. Broods, the brother-sister duo comprised of Georgia Nott and Caleb Nott, dropped one of last year’s best songs with their moody debut single “Bridges,” and now their follow-up single “Never Gonna Change” escalates its predecessor’s gloomy vibe.

Spaced-out production with a pulsating glitchiness evokes Sunday Girl or Ellie Goulding, while there’s definitely something of Lorde‘s melancholy here, too; but Nott’s vocals, ethereal and haunting, are inimitable.

Listen below.
