Adele’s ’21’ Becomes First Album To Sell 3 Million Digital Copies

Adele‘s 2011 juggernaut 21 was the highest-selling album of that year and of 2012, the first time an album topped sales in consecutive years. 21 also recently became Amazon’s best-selling album of all time. And now it has reached another landmark, becoming the first album to eclipse three million digital sales. (Sure, it’s a completely arbitrary sales mark, but aren’t they all?)

A representative from Nielsen SoundScan confirmed to Rolling Stone that the diamond-certified LP reached the milestone, just a few weeks before it turns two.

Adele has been quiet in recent months — although she apparently found some time to work with Wiz Khalifa — but hopefully she’ll celebrate this achievement by releasing a new album later this year.
