The-Dream Announces Departure From Def Jam

The-Dream took to social media today (January 8) to announce his departure from Def Jam after six years of music and industry success at the label. The-Dream (real name Terius Nash) posted the Def Jam logo along with the message, “I will miss this logo. It all started here! Love Everything that I achieved there,” followed by a photo with Rihanna saying “Started with Umbrella…… Since then it’s been reigning forever.” During his tenure, Nash co-wrote a slew of hits for the label, including the aforementioned “Umbrella” and Kanye West‘s “All Of The Lights,” and released his own music — most recently with his sex-crazed 2013 album IV Play.

Nash also served as an executive at the label. In October 2012, he was named Vice President of A&R, tasked with cultivating their stable of new talent. There’s no statement regarding his next step, but head below to see his messages, including a walk through his releases while there (of particular interest are his comments on the two versions of 1977).
