Katy B Covers One Direction’s “Story Of My Life” & It Is The Actual Best: Watch

English songstress Katy B is on a pretty extraordinary winning streak with singles “5AM” and “Crying For No Reason,” but she broke away from her original material in a recent session for UK radio show In:Demand to put her spin on One Direction‘s recent single “Story Of My Life” — and even though it’s entirely absent of the ’90s dance sound that’s made her brand of pop so distinctive, it’s a luminously spare, gorgeous cover that injects the song with stunning new life.

Her voice! The way it trembles and soars on the chorus! It’s chill-inducing, and one of those covers that strips away the production gimmicks (like the Mumford & Sons-style production) to reveal what an exceptionally well-written song “Story” is in its bones.

Katy, if you’re out there, please record a studio version of this and release it as a bonus track or B-side. It’s necessary.

The singer’s sophomore LP Little Red has been pushed back one week to a February 10 release date. Watch her version of “Story” up top.
