One Direction, The Wanted Nominated For Worst Band In NME Awards 2014

Well, the NME Awards nominations are out, and it’s bad news for fans of One Direction and The Wanted. The dueling British boy bands weren’t just snubbed by the British rock magazine’s annual awards — they were actually nominated for Worst Band this year, alongside Muse, 30 Seconds To Mars, The 1975 and Imagine Dragons, which feels a little harsh. All four of those are way worse than One Direction or The Wanted. C’mon, guys.

In slightly happier news, some actually-good pop acts were also nominated for awards: HAIM received a Best International Band nom, while Lorde and Lily Allen are both up for Best Solo Artist. CHVRCHES received a Best New Band nod, and Lily Allen’s exceptional “Hard Out Here” was nominated for Best Track and Best Music Video; Pharrell received a nomination for “Happy” in that latter category.

Also noteworthy: Miley Cyrus, Harry Styles and Robin Thicke all received nods for Villain Of The Year. Gulp. Better start tweeting your outrage, Smilers and Directioners. (For the record, you can vote until February 21.)
