Beyonce’s “Drunk In Love” Gets James Blake Remix: Listen

British electronic artist and 2013 Mercury Prize winner James Blake hasn’t quite had that major breakthrough moment here in the States yet, but over the past few years he has established himself as one of the most unique and hard-to-pin-down artists in any genre. His desolate beats and warped soul vocals have gained a strong following, particularly in the hip-hop community: Kanye West and his creative guru Virgil Abloh are avowed fans, and 2013 breakout Chance The Rapper is moving in with Blake in L.A. so they can start collaborating. And now Blake has taken his hallucinatory post-dubstep R&B sonics and applied them to Beyonce and Jay Z‘s “Drunk In Love.”

The result is nearly unrecognizable, turning the song’s opening chant into a detached, haunting loop surrounded by ultra-slow, Y2K-era Pharrell synth plinks. Sorry, Jay, but you’ve once again been excised from the track.
