Britney Spears’ ‘Piece Of Me’ Outsells Vegas Residencies By Celine Dion & Elton John
Britney Spears returns to Las Vegas next week with new bragging rights: Her residency, Britney: Piece of Me, is the year’s top-seller, according to StubHub.
While the online retailer didn’t release sales figures, it did disclose some startling factoids: The 100-date Piece of Me, which kicked off December 27, has already outsold residencies by other, huge names in music — Celine Dion, Elton John, Shania Twain and Rod Stewart — this year. It also only falls behind Dion’s, starting in 2011, and John’s, starting from 2009, as the third best-selling residency of all time.
While Spears hasn’t performing for as long as Dion and John, such news isn’t all that surprising. After all, Piece of Me‘s opening night arrived shortly after Britney Jean‘s December 3 release and just before the 15-year anniversary of her debut, … Baby One More Time. The high-profile guests from opening night alone — including Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Adam Lambert and Selena Gomez — showed that it was due time for a greatest-hits victory lap.
