Bastille Perform “Pompeii” And “Oblivion” On ‘Saturday Night Live’: Watch

And The Walls Kept Tumbling Down...
The Bastille juggernaut broke the sound barrier tonight (January 25) with a brilliant performance of breakthrough hit “Pompeii” on Saturday Night Live. The Brits shook the stage with their chant-filled earworm — exposing a whole new audience to the relentlessly catchy Bad Blood gem.

The band always deliver the goods live and frontman Dan looked every inch a star in his hipster-tastic orange and grey sweater and trademark quiff. Their appearance on the show couldn’t be more timely with “Pompeii” rocketing into the Billboard Hot 100 this week. Bastille later returned to belt out piano ballad “Oblivion”.

Watch their first performance up top and second after the jump.

They were unbelievable with hauntingly beautiful music and vocals in an absolutely wonderful live performance.

I had the privilege to see Bastille and meet the band at a very small venue in Lansing, Michigan in October. The Loft holds about 400 people. The concert was up close and personal and their sound was spot on and chilling. I am certain with this appearance and their growing popularity I will not be seeing them again in such a small space.

Who are the backup singers at 02:16 on the ‘Pompeii’ video? I love their voices, but I can’t find anything about them.

Absolutely blown away ! I’d never heard of them, but was floored at the talent and how different their sound was (Pompeii, esp). They have a new fan here !

Bastille is such a talented band, and Dan’s voice never disappoints. Check out their covers on youtube! They make each song their own with how well they change it up. The cover We Can’t Stop by Miley Cyrus & No Scrubs by TLC & also What Would You Do by City High Club. It’s beyond amazing. Their own songs are twice as good too! Daniel In The Den, Flaws, These Streets, Laughter Lines, and of course Bad Blood.

I loved the performances on SNL … you could see the nerves a bit during Oblivion (Dan’s hands were visibly shaking). For their first BIG primetime performance (outside of performing on talk shows), they were amazing. I’ve seen them live twice (Music Hall of Williamsburg and Webster Hall) and they hold the crowd in the palm of their hands. If you hang around long enough after a gig and meet them, you will not be disappointed – they are SO nice and warm towards their fans. It’s wonderful to see them growing in popularity because they deserve the attention.
