Madonna Will Perform With Macklemore & Ryan Lewis At The Grammys

Us Weekly reports that Madonna will join Macklemore & Ryan Lewis at the Grammy Awards to perform “Same Love,” the Marriage Equality Act anthem up for Song of the Year.

Before Madonna confirmed reports of her performance, some fans figured that she would join Beyonce, up for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, for a mash-up of “Justify My Love” and its Beyonce descendent “Haunted.” (The two could have even interpolated Jay Z‘s “Justify My Thug,” perhaps the strangest proof of Madonna’s enduring legacy, ever.) A “Same Love” team-up makes sense, though.

Released July 2012, “Same Love” was presented as an anthem when Macklemore & Ryan Lewis performed it on its TV debut months later, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show no less (below). (“No other artist in hip-hop history have ever taken a stance in marriage equality the way they have,” DeGeneres said.) Madonna’s been just as outspoken, while presenting at the annual GLAAD Awards and protesting California’s Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act.
