JIMI: All Is By My Side, the Jimi Hendrix biopic starring OutKast‘s Andre 3000, will make its U.S. debut at this year’s South by Southwest in March. The film had premiered at September’s Toronto International Film Festival, to positive reviews from critics.

Directed by John Ridley, 12 Years a Slave screenwriter, JIMI focused on a single formative year in Hendrix’s career: his discovery in New York, the months he spent on his 1967 debut Are You Experienced and the moments leading up to his iconic Monterey Pop Festival performance, where Hendrix lit his guitar on fire and smashed it onto the stage. Hendrix’s famously guarded estate refused to grant Ridley permission to use the late guitarist’s own catalog, so Andre 3000 instead performs songs that Hendrix covered himself, by The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Muddy Waters among others.

SVDDNXLY, the Noisey-produced film on A$AP Rocky, also makes its world premiere at this year’s festival. The film traces through the Harlem rapper’s initial attempts to gain notice and features appearances by Snoop Dogg, Macklemore and Wiz Khalifa among others.
