Bruno Mars’ Super Bowl Halftime Show Tops Beyonce, Madonna For Record Number Of Viewers

Bruno MarsSuper Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show on February 2 brought in the largest audience in the history of the big game. According to Nielsen data cited by FOX, 115.3 million viewers tuned in for the performance. This tops last year’s number of 110.8M for Beyonce‘s halftime show as well as the previous record of 114M, which Madonna set in 2012 with the help of Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.

The game itself on Sunday had the largest viewing audience in history, with an average of 111.5M viewers, so Mars certainly got a bump from that. Regardless, there are two ways to look at this — either the suits at FOX and Pepsi were completely wrong and Mars had enough star power to attract a major audience on his own, without the help of some aging rockers who were lackadaisically thrown in… or the suits were totally right and bringing in Red Hot Chili Peppers made halftime the big-tent event they were hoping it would be.

Either way, it’s a major win for the Hooligans.
