“Alone Yet Not Alone” Might Have The Last Laugh

“Alone Yet Not Alone” had everyone scratching their head when it was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Song category over high-profile entries like Lana Del Rey‘s “Young & Beautiful” and Taylor Swift‘s “Sweeter than Fiction” — not because it was terrible but simply because nobody had ever heard it (or seen the similarly titled film).

Confusion turned to outrage when songwriter Bruce Broughton was stripped of his nomination for illegal lobbying but the story doesn’t end there. In further proof that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, “Alone Yet Not Alone” has climbed into the top 100 on iTunes and the touching video, which features quadriplegic vocalist Joni Eareckson Tada, is closing in on one million YouTube views. Listen to 2014’s most unexpected hit after the jump.
