Conway Makes A Huge Splash With Arty “Hustler” Video: Idolator Premiere

Conway generated a tidal wave of buzz when she dropped jittery electro-pop debut single “Big Talk” in 2013. Her ability to blend underground sounds with a booming pop chorus was impressive and she delivered on that early promise with an impeccable debut EP — also called Big Talk.

The former indie-rocker (she fronted band All Wrong and the Plans Change) has settled on “Hustler” as the EP’s second single and delivers a video every bit as urgent and frantic as the song. “To be a hustler is to be adaptable,” she explains. “These characters embody or personify different facets of hustlers I relate to or have interacted with in my day-to-day. The song is emotional and so is the visual.”

Directed by Zach Gold, who approached Conway after seeing her perform live at CMJ, the arty clip is a wild ride. Our heroine rocks a variety of eerie outfits — my favorite is rabbit lady! — and channels something untamed that is reminiscent of less self conscious Bjork. The girl has come a long way from her “Big Talk” video, which she filmed using her lap top camera.
