Berlin’s “Animal” Video: Idolator Premiere

Last year Terri Nunn spent time reminiscing with Idolator about recording classic pop hits like “Take My Breath Away” and “No More Words” with legendary producer Giorgio Moroder, and shortly after that her band Berlin released their seventh album, Animal. (Buy here.) The LP’s title track is symbolic of the record as a whole, in that it combines a modern dancefloor aesthetic with a raw rock sensibility and, of course, Nunn’s flawless, recognizable vocals. In other words, it’s 100% Berlin.

For the edgy “Animal” video, the scantily-clad singer dances in an S&M dungeon with masked club kids, cavorts with the Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence and and gets touchy-feely with androgynous celebutantes, including RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Raven, who Terri met during her stint as a guest judge on Season 2 of the hit Logo series.

“I wanted to film people of all ages enjoying their animal natures, and director Chad Michael Ward realized that and then some,” Nunn tells Idolator. “The youngest in the video is 19, the oldest is 76.”

Eyebrow-raising video aside, “Animal” stands on its own as a solid pop song that both echoes Berlin’s rich new wave history and sounds as modern as any heavily-playlisted cut on pop radio today.

“‘Animal’ was the first song co-writer/producer Derek Cannavo and I wrote together,” Nunn tells us. “It exploded out of us and we both were blown away.  After hearing it, we knew that this partnership was meant to be.”
