LIZ Goes Back In Time With “Y2K”: Listen

Mad Decent signee LIZ is back with the aptly named “Y2K,” which she told Billboard is “Baltimore/Jersey club inspired, epic and dynamic.” That Lido beat is certainly dynamic, but what she didn’t mention is it’s built on Timbaland‘s turn of the millennium tricks, like syncopation, snappy stop-starts and high-pitched vocal samples. It’s another offering that places the breathy-voiced ’90s nerd smack in the middle of the synthetic millennial R&B she grew up with, like Aaliyah or TLC‘s FanMail (which turns 15 this weekend!).

“Y2K” is off LIZ’s forthcoming Just Like You EP (out February 27), which also includes the clubby “All Them Boys.” Hear it below.
