Calvin Harris’ “Summer”: Listen To The Slamming New Dance Song In Full

On Calvin Harris‘ debut album, 2007’s I Created Disco, the Scottish producer/DJ was still far off from landing high profile collaborations with people like Rihanna, Ellie Goulding and Florence Welch. Instead, he had to rely on his own vocal ability as a means of connecting with the ears of the public. Then, some time after Calvin broke big worldwide with “We Found Love” and the string of hits off 18 Months, he declared that, going forward, he’d no longer be singing on his own songs.

So that brings us to Harris’ new, euphoric single “Summer.” It’s a shameless bid at nabbing an “Umbrella”/”California Gurls”/”Blurred Lines”-like Song Of The Summer anthem, from the ready-for-the-strobe-lights production down to, obviously, the title. Plus it has vocals by none other than Calvin Harris himself. Never say never, I guess?

Hear “Summer” below.

It’s all a bit perplexing, because at this point Calvin surely could have gotten any of today’s chart movers and shakers to front this track, almost ensuring that we’d be barraged with its sonic whomp all summer long. But then again, why be obvious and take the easy road? He’s the enigma known as Calvin Harris, and he’ll do what he damn well pleases, thank you very much.
