Shakira’s “Chasing Shadows” Is A Sublime Electro-Pop Moment: Preview The Target Bonus Track

Shakira‘s eponymous tenth studio album is officially released on March 25 but, like every other LP released this decade apart from Beyonce‘s iTunes miracle, it has surfaced online early. Shakira is a typically experimental collection of poetic pop songs that finds the diva dabbling in reggae, dance, rock and even country.

The Colombian goddess has pulled together 15 gems but “Chasing Shadows” stands out as the set’s prettiest electro-pop moment. Penned by Sia and produced by Greg Kurstin, the shimmery disco adventure is a musical love letter that demands repeat listening. “It’s just you and me and we chase our shadows, just waiting for the sun to go down,” Shakira sings over soaring synths before promising: “when the night comes we will run from nothing my love.”

This and the undeniably catchy “Dare (La La La)” would sound brilliant on radio. The latter has a better chance of actually hitting the airwaves given that “Chasing Shadows” has been relegated to Target bonus track status. Listen to a brief preview of Shakira’s triumphant dance anthem after the jump.
