Frank Ocean Hits The Studio For Sophomore Album

Frank Ocean posted a seemingly innocuous photo of a dude hunched over a soundboard on his Tumblr, but thanks to director/photographer Nabil, we know it’s Ocean himself in that studio, and he’s working on the follow-up to his 2012 debut Channel Orange. Nabil, who directed Ocean’s videos for “Novacane” and “Pyramids,” posted the same photo to his own Tumblr, along with the caption “Frank in the lab.. Making sophomore album game” accompanied by three flame emojis.

Just over a year ago, Ocean said he had about 11 songs fleshed out for his second album, and was logging time with Pharrell and Danger Mouse. He followed that up with some live performances of new material in Europe last summer, but he’s been pretty quiet since then. The new music drought effectively ended earlier this month, though, with “Hero,” Ocean’s collaboration with The Clash and Diplo for Converse’s Three Artists series.
