Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me”: Hear The Beautiful Ballad
A few days before he makes his SNL debut on the March 29 episode hosted by Louis CK, British crooner Sam Smith has premiered his beautiful new single “Stay With Me.” The single off his forthcoming debut album In The Lonely Hour (out May 26) is a spare piano ballad chronicling a tryst that’s more about loneliness than love. And while it doesn’t feature the rollercoaster vocals of “Money On My Mind,” it’s a stirring display of Smith’s unique, mature voice — particularly when his multi-tracked vocals punch in on the chorus, giving it the power of a choir.
By the third refrain, strings and a drum smack kick in, making for a slow-build bit of damaged soul. Hear it below.
